Currently, the Chilean state owns large tracts of land in the north of the country that have agricultural potential but no water availability. This line of projects seeks to generate value through the provision of desalinated water for agricultural usage in this territory, transforming them into productive areas, creating jobs and expanding high-value fruit growing areas.<\/p>\n
The business model under consideration would involve the granting of guarantees to companies interested in building desalination infrastructure, and for users, granting of government land for a fixed term to allow the development of agricultural projects. This allows the state to keep this territory in its hands, and then take in the surplus-value. Once the investment has been written off, water production fees will fall significantly, which will lead to even higher value in a second concession.<\/p>\n
